The former residence of Zhou Youguang, also called as the old Lihe Hall, is one of the eight mansions of Tang Family. It was originally the residence of Tang Shining, a painter who lived in the Ming dynasty. Later the estate changed hands for several times, and was finally purchased by the Zhou Family in late Qing dynasty. Zhou Qiyan created Lanshe, a literary group in the Republic of China. Zhou Youguang, (1906-2017), former name Zhou Yaoping, was China’s distinguished linguist and economist. He was honored as one of the main founders of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet.
